David Morse and Koko
David Morse and Koko
Abiding Savior Church at 1900 SW 35th Avenue in Fort Lauderdale is delighted to announce a unique Concert Sunday worship experience and fellowship dinner feast to follow on Sunday, March 9th at 10:00 AM. The public is invited to join in both the Concert/Worship event and the dinner that follows. A free-will offering will be received. The Concert Sunday event features David Clyle Morse and Koko the gorilla direct from Mathewson United Methodist Church in Providence, Rhode Island in their only scheduled 2008 South Florida appearance for this year’s concert season. This is David’s second appearance in concert at Abiding Savior Church as part of the Huebner Concert Sunday series sponsored by Robert and Julie Huebner. His program last year was memorable and enthusiastically received by all in attendance.

David and Koko will join with Pastor Bill Knott of Abiding Savior Church in presenting a concert worship experience that will speak to kids of all ages with the ageless message of the Gospel Good News. Following the extended Sunday morning service, members and friends will adjourn to the Fellowship Hall for a concert Sunday feast fit for a king, featuring beef brisket, medley of sweet potatoes and carrots, steamed broccoli, and cherry cobbler a la mode for dessert.

David joined the staff of Mathewson Street United Methodist Church as Minister of Music & Discipleship in Providence, RI, in 1998. As part of a pastoral team, David shares in many church responsibilities while being an organist and choral director. The church’s annual Kids On Keyboards-Organ! Festival (Project KOKO) presents ten organ concerts in one week to students at the fourth grade level and has reached thousands of young people since 1999. In the summer of 2005 David and Koko traveled 10,000 miles by car, covering 29 states and playing concerts all over the United States from the Atlantic to the Pacific. After returning David was a featured solo artist at the Cathedral of Sts. Peter and Paul in Providence, performing on the largest mechanical action Casavant organ in the world, 4 manuals and 128 ranks of pipes. He is completing coursework at Boston University School of Theology to be ordained in the United Methodist Church. He has served many years as Organist and Chair of the Division of Worship for the New England Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church.

David is an Honorary Life Member of The Fellowship of United Methodists in Music & Worship Arts and has served as National Vice President and President of the Southern New England Chapter. In the summer of 1996 he was present at the Northeastern Jurisdiction gathering of The Fellowship as a service organist and conducted a community sing-in of Brahms' Requiem. The next year he was a featured clinician and worship organist for the national convocation in Houston. At the 1999 national convocation in Nashville he presented his “Steps to Artistic Expression: The School of Forward Motion.” David is familiar to The Fellowship as a workshop organizer, worship coordinator, preacher, clinician, choral director, organist, pianist, and choral reading accompanist. David is a member of The American Guild of Organists and has served as Dean in Hartford (CT) San Antonio (TX), Rhode Island, has been a nominee to the National Council, and currently serves as Treasurer of the Rhode Island Chapter, District Convener for Rhode Island and Connecticut He was also the Coordinator for the 2007 Region I Convention. He is also a member of The Organ Historical Society.

David has had a love of monkeys and gorillas since early childhood and looks for any opportunity to monkey around, have fun and bring delight to others. Even his latest CD album is full of surprises far beyond the 21,924 notes! David's dream is to help people explore artistic, spiritual and theological ways of understanding their own abilities to be expressive by any means - including music.
