OMG! We got in!
On Saturday morning, November 7, 8:15AM, I got a call from a friend inviting us to see "A Sordid Affair", a sort of variety show, from the creator of Sordid Lives, and Sordid Lives; The Series, Del Shores, which stars numerous cast members from the movie and the series.  When the phone rang, I almost didn't answer because I was still in bed, but I am so glad I picked it up.  The invitation INSTANTLY woke me up faster than gasoline in a coffee pot!  I had totally forgot that the show was on that day, so it really took me for a loop that I was actually going to see it.

"Meet us at Parker Playhouse at 7:30 sharp!", and in my normal fashion, I showed up at 7.  I was really excited to be there, hoping that the show was going to be as top notch as the movie and TV series!  As all my friends started arriving one by one, (there were 7 of us,) the excitement just kept building.  I so loved the movie, and the TV series was such an event here in Fort Lauderdale, every week we all religiously went to watch it at the bars like it was church. I was at least hoping that I could leave with a smile on my face.  I really didn't know what to expect.

So the real question is "Did Del deliver?"  Did I get to see the show that I was so hoping for as a "Sordid fan"?

The simple answer is HELL YES!  But if you keep reading, (WARNING: SPOILER ALERT) you will find out that it was OMFG FUNNY!

The lights went down, and the first voice we heard over the sound system was Leslie Jordan. Then right into my personal favorite, Ann Walker! (I love you Ann!!!)  At the beginning of the first and second parts, Ann opened as LaVonda as if she were in the episode "Call Waiting", which is my all time favorite!  This act alone just made me want to faint in hysterics!   She did it while walking in the audience, and totally played the crowd.  It was excellent. This alone made my night, and I just thought to myself, "That's it, I've seen what I wanted to see, I'm completely satisfied!"  Then came the rest of the show. WOW!

The rest of the show was just like a Vegas variety show, where everyone had their own act, and Del was the "MC" so to speak.  I don't want to get into too much details as not to ruin inside jokes, (there were a TON of them that any fan could catch quickly and laugh, excellent delivery!) or what you'll actually see in the show.   So we'll try to be as basic as possible.

Del told stories about Sordid, and other career stories that were quite entertaining and funny, as well as some life experiences, and some good jokes in stand-up fashion.  His real life HUSBAND Jason Dottley, who plays "Ty" on the show, performed music from his new budding music career. And if you're a real fan, you'll know why Emerson Collins who plays "Max" was there!  (Again, perfect execution, funny, and delightfully surprising!) Georgette Jones (plays Tammy Wynette, her real-life mother) also performed some music and talked a bit about the show.

The performance from Rosemary and Newell Alexander (Dr. Eve and Wardell) was downright BRILLIANT!  I cannot tell you anything about this performance, but the audience did a 360 TWICE in less than a minute!  Unbelievable!

And, as if you couldn't guess, Leslie Jordan (Brother Boy) was the Grand Finale!  No, he wasn't dressed in character, but he didn't need to be.  Standing ovations before, during, and after.

No, this wasn't the entire show, there was even more. The sad part was that Rue McClanahan (Peggy Ingram) was unable to be there because of surgery. She sent her love, but we couldn't imagine yet another powerhouse being in the show, it was that good as it was.

But let's break it down.  If you are a Sordid Lives fan, YOU MUST SEE THIS SHOW!  If you missed it, wow did you lose out!  On a scale of 1-to-5, GayFLL.COM gives this show a respectable 4.5. Everything wasn't "perfect", but the most important parts for me were "How much did I laugh?", and "How much was Sordid material?"  It was a great balance with personal touches, and my belly hurt from laughing so hard!

I'll say it again. OMFG FUNNY!
